Chapter 4 Applications of Differentiation

In this chapter we see the main applications of derivatives and continuity to mathematical and scientific questions, and learn how to sketch graphs of functions that help in setting up mathematical statements of scientific problems that involve calculus.

We omit Sections 6, and might omit Section 8, depending on time available.

To help with the graph sketching, we revisit Chapter 2 to review horizontal asymptotes.

The final application, anti-derivatives, opens to door to the methods and ideas in Chapter 5, on Integration.

By the end of this chapter, you should be able to answer all the Concept Check Questions except 10, and all the True-False Quiz Questions in the Chapter 4 Review.
